GLOSSARY

 

Refinishing:  Remove existing finish generally stripping to bare wood, dye, stain, seal, glaze, seal and top coat.  There can be more or less steps dependant on the project.  But refinishing is the most intensive back to near new or better process.

 

Restoration:  Generally refers to artworks and antiques but can be used interchangeable with other items.  Process can range between simple and quite intricate dependant on the condition of the piece and the desired end result to restore to.  Normally restoration consists of general clean, add as little, remove as little, maintain integrity of the item, repair structural and cosmetic damage.

 

Refurbishing:  A step down from refinishing.  Generally clean, touchup, fill, repairs, seal & tone for uniform color, then top coat overall.  Some sanding and blending for serious damaged areas.

 

Image Enhancement: Also referred to as Spritz 'n' Go or SNG.  Item is inspected, clean or polish, minor & major damage is repaired with color enrichment to replace worn or missing color.  There is no sanding of fills.  Repairs, sections or even the entire item may receive a fresh top coat to spruce it up.  It is usually the quickest, least invasive and lest expensive process.  Normally used for minor damaged or worn shabby items to dress them up, effectively mask damage, and generally keep up a nice crisp clean appearance.
